Mount Pleasant, PA – Lindenwood University rallied from a 4-goal second period deficit to win their third consecutive ECRHA Challenge Cup.
Reminiscent of last year’s impressive comeback to win the 2014-2015 Division III National Championship, in which Lindenwood rallied from down 5-2, before scoring the go ahead goal with 1:26 to play.
This time, Neumann lead 6-2 just 3:28 into the second period, prompting Lindenwood to call a timeout and make a change in net. From that point on, it was all Lindenwood, as they outshot Neumann 28-14 over the final two frames, completing the comeback when Jason Novak scored at the 7:19 mark of the 3rd period to put Lindenwood ahead for good, 7-6.
A last minute push by Neumann fell short.
Lindenwood defeated Neumann in the final of last season’s tournament (3-0) and Michigan State in 2014 (8-1) and remain the only team to come home with the D3 Crown.
