More About Thomas
The Rivermen have a tremendous defense that begins with an All-American star in net.  Few goaltenders in the nation can match the career accomplishments of UMSL's Thomas Ames.

He has appeared in four national championship tournaments, reaching the finals twice.  He was named the nation's top goaltender while leading UMSL to the 2004 national championship, and he was the Rivermen's most valuable player during their '05 regional championship run.

At 2006 Nationals, Ames ranked first in the tournament with a 1.86 GAA, and his .908 save percentage ranked second.  In the 4-3 championship game loss to Neumann, Ames kept the Rivermen within striking distance by making several spectacular stops.  Ames made 21 saves over the final two periods.

In the semifinals, Ames won a goaltending duel with Brockport star Kyle Shrauger, stopping 25 shots in leading UMSL to a 2-1 overtime win.  In the quarterfinals, Ames stopped 15 of 16 shots to lead his team to a 10-1 victory over Maine.

Throughout the tournament, Ames was consistently outstanding.

Ames has won 75 games over the past three seasons, making him the NCRHA's winningest active goaltender.    Ames had a banner year in 2005-06.   He was the top goaltender nationwide in almost every statistical category.  He led the country with 29 wins, a 1.86 goals-against average, a .898 save percentage, and seven shutouts.

In a league full of excellent netminders, Ames stands out.  In 2005-06, he set GPCIHL single-season records for goals-against average (1.22) and save percentage (.923).  He led the nation with seven shutouts.  He was in top form during the 2006 postseason, leading the Rivermen to the national championship game.

Ames is a brilliant technical goaltender whose mechanics are virtually flawless.  He forces opponents to work extremely hard to find a shooting angle.  After hundreds and hundreds of games, on ice and on Sportcourt, Ames has attained an amazing mastery of goaltending technique.

Thomas finished his undergraduate studies in Philosophy, Communication, and Psychology, and received his degree in May 2006.  He is currently earning his Master of Education in Adult Education.
